I drove to Monterey this weekend for the cart races at Laguna Seca. On the way there at night I got into a freeway race with a Shelby Series 1. After smoking the shit out of this nice shiny silver shelby I noticed oil smoke. Pulled over and the car was idling like its running on less than 6 cylinders. It had blown out the dip stick and the oil was all over the place. That's where the smoke was coming from....from under the car not through the exhaust. The wastegates are so fucking loud that I didn't hear the detonation. Car was still driveable and I drove it back to socal without any problems. Just stopped boosting. Greg has the car right now and he already has the motor apart. Looks like I scored the #5 and #6 cylinder walls and #6 piston just started to melt. So lost compression in #5 and #6. Good news is that the short block was still under warranty so I am getting a new one from Nissan. All of you guys who might think that this is because the stock block can't take the power, let me tell you right now that this would've happened even if I had a fully built motor. I am just kicking myself for not having those EGT gauges installed. I will have them on this time and I am also having the wastetgates plumbed into the exhaust so I can hear the pinging if it happens again. I was only running 17-18psi of boost which I normally had been running on pump gas, I must have gotten some bad gas on the trip. So here comes the break-in process again along with a newly built tranny. We will have the car broken-in and ready for the Dec 1st drags. Zo
